Naturopathic Doctor

A Naturopathic Doctor is an experienced healthcare provider who practices naturopathic medicine.

They focus on helping patients prevent disease and heal from the inside out. Naturopathic medicine considers all aspects of your health and lifestyle including mental, physical, emotional, and environmental factors.

A Naturopathic Doctor will work with you to identify and treat the root cause of your health condition. They are skilled at listening deeply to understand your health history and current problems. In addition to this, they will educate you about your condition so you can take active steps towards a healthier life free of disease.

Registered Dietitian

HealthOne is proud to have Registered Dietitians on our Wellness team who can guide your eating habits in a sustainable way.

Food is a huge part of our day-to-day living and overall health, so if you have questions about how to eat a balanced diet, our professionals can help you.

Our Registered Dietitians offer a variety of different services. This includes nutritional counselling, follow-up appointments, and packages to support multiple areas of health including weight management, chronic disease management, gut health, energy, and optimized health.

Holistic Nutritionist

A holistic nutritionist is a certified healthcare provider who takes a comprehensive approach.

They consider factors like your relationship with food and how these choices influence other areas of your life and overall well-being. Our nutritionists will seek to understand things like your health history, family history, eating behaviours, lifestyle, environment, and a complete understanding of your health. They will use this information to identify why you’re experiencing your symptoms and come up with nutritional recommendations specifically tailored to your needs.

If you’re on a healthy lifestyle journey, a holistic nutritionist can play a key role. Because they understand the many influences that impact our food choices, they can help you identify areas to improve your health while maintaining balance and enjoying what you eat.

Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a form of care that has been practiced for thousands of years in China.

It is a natural approach to health and wellness that focuses on restoring imbalances in the body. TCM believes in the flow of ‘energy’ (also known as ‘qi’) in the body and also aspires to restore balance between yin and yang.

At HealthOne, our experienced Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner offers a variety of modalities including herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, bian energy stone, cupping, and tui na massage. We also provide acupuncture treatment using various different needles such as ordinary, leather, triangular, blood collection, and plum blossom.

Sleep Consultant (Toronto Location)

At HealthOne, we have a Sleep Consultant who can support you if you deal with sleep issues or disturbances.

A Sleep Consultant is an experienced and knowledgeable healthcare provider who specializes in helping people sleep better. They will evaluate how five key pillars: headspace, schedule, environment, nutrition, and movement, play a role in your life and what you can do differently to better your sleep as a result. In addition, they will use research-based methods and assess the direct cause of your sleep problems.

Digestive Issues

Digestive issues can be debilitating and interfere with your quality of life.

If you suffer from gas, bloating, indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation, or another issue, we can help.

Gut health is an important pillar of overall health. Food sensitivities and intolerances are common causes of uncomfortable symptoms. These days, there is also more research coming out to support the link between the gut and immunity, mental health, skin, stress, energy levels, mood, and disease.

Our team at HealthOne Wellness will help you uncover the cause of your gut problems and create a targeted plan to help you. We will help you achieve optimal digestive health which includes improving digestive enzyme secretion, improving nutrient absorption, balancing the gut flora, eliminating dysbiosis, and improving bowel motility and stool formation.

Hormone Health & Balance

Hormones are important chemicals that are released from our endocrine glands.

They move through our bloodstream to different areas of the body and deliver key messages that influence how our body functions.

They affect components like our growth, mood, immunity, reproduction and sexual function, and metabolism. Since hormones impact so many integral areas of our body, even a small imbalance can cause significant negative effects.

Having healthy hormonal balance can support optimal health at every age and life stage. When hormones are balanced, you can experience benefits such as improved memory, better energy, efficient metabolism, better sleep, less wrinkles, healthier hair, better immunity, stronger bones, and better cardiovascular health.

Stress Management & Mood

People often don’t consider how anxiety, stress, and mental health conditions may be linked to their health and wellness choices.

Research has begun to highlight the strong impact that lifestyle choices can have on our mood.

Factors including sleep levels, diet, nutrition, and physical activity can have a strong impact on our overall health and wellbeing. The gut plays an important role in this and is often referred to as the “second brain”. The health of our gut microbiome directly correlates with our levels of happiness and relaxation.

You may benefit from visiting our Wellness and Mental Health teams if you are experiencing a mood-related condition, high stress levels, or anxiety. A combination of therapy along with diet and nutritional support can significantly improve your mental health and general wellbeing.

Chronic Disease (Management and Prevention)

It is becoming more widely known that lifestyle factors are the main cause of chronic diseases in Canadians.

Conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, Crohn’s and Celiac disease, and mood disorders can be challenging to deal with. At HealthOne, we have a dedicated team of professionals who can help you.

You may be referred to a Registered Dietitian to help with things such as managing blood sugar or reducing cholesterol. Our Naturopathic Doctor can provide additional support for areas of health including sleep, exercise and activity, diet and nutrition, and supplementation advice.

Our professionals will help you understand the pathophysiology of the disease and how diet and lifestyle factors can influence this. We will also ask about your health history, current lifestyle, and habits/challenges regarding your diet. You will leave your session with a customized plan to help you manage your disease and symptoms effectively.

Weight Loss

Weight loss is a common topic in the health and wellness space, however there is conflicting advice available to Canadians about the best way to achieve it safely.

Discussing weight loss with a trusted professional is the best route to take.

It can be challenging and emotional to navigate food and diet concerns. Experiences like emotional eating, grocery store expenses, and learned food behaviors from our upbringing can all influence the way we eat. By working with a professional, you can begin to understand the “why” behind your food choices and learn effective, evidence-based strategies to lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off.

Pursuing a weight loss or management goal requires time and ongoing support from those around you. We have coaching programs that include follow-up appointments so you can receive ongoing support from a professional. Our Wellness team at HealthOne will be right there beside you during your journey so you can make healthier choices and see tangible results.

suffering from allergy symptoms

Allergies and Food Sensitivities

An allergy is a response in the immune system where the body detects what it believes to be a harmful substance.

Allergy symptoms can range from mild to moderate to severe. Allergens such as food, insects, medications, latex, and airborne pollutants can all trigger an allergic response. Most symptoms people experience include anaphylaxis or a narrowing of the airway passages, sneezing, watery eyes, skin responses, cramps, or vomiting.

A food sensitivity is different than a food allergy. It is an abnormal response in the immune system to a particular food. Side effects of a food sensitivity can include stomach pain, fatigue, severe headaches, and gut problems. You can work towards an improvement of your allergy or food sensitivity symptoms by meeting with a member of our Wellness team.

A Naturopathic Doctor will create a treatment plan for you. They will conduct a series of tests to seek out the cause of your symptoms and help you eliminate those allergy triggers as much as possible. They may also suggest herbal remedies, supplements, or acupuncture treatment to further decrease the severity of your allergic responses.

A Registered Dietitian will help you learn more about how to make optimal food choices. They can help you understand which foods might not be safe for you to consume. Additionally, they can create an eating plan to help you achieve a healthy and balanced diet.

Specialized Services

Vitamin Injections

If you struggle to remember to take vitamins every day, intramuscular vitamin injections could be the solution you need.

They are done by our Naturopathic Doctor and the procedure is incredibly quick. Vitamin injections will leave you feeling energized, healthy, and ready to tackle your day.

The treatment takes less than 5 minutes and is a great solution if you struggle with daily supplementation of vitamins. You will experience quick and effective results in a short amount of time.

Vitamin D Injections

A common deficiency in Canadians is Vitamin D deficiency. Symptoms of this can include lowered immunity, higher anxiety, depression, low energy levels, pain, low bone density, slow wound healing, hair loss, sore muscles, and high blood pressure.

We aren’t able to absorb Vitamin D through our skin during the winter, so supplementation is required. This is why Vitamin D injections are a great solution that is more easily absorbed in the body than oral supplementation.

Our Vitamin D injections at HealthOne wellness can bring a variety of benefits including improved mood, better immunity, and stronger bones. We highly recommend this during the winter to help with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Vitamin B12 Injections

Another common vitamin deficiency in Canadians is Vitamin B12. This vitamin supports energy levels, stress management, weight loss, exercise performance, cardiovascular health, and red blood cell production.

Because it only naturally occurs in animal foods, Vitamin B12 can be a difficult one to get enough of if you eat a vegetarian or vegan diet. Aging and gut conditions such as IBS and IBD can affect your ability to fully absorb Vitamin B12 when taken orally. This is why Vitamin B12 injections are a great alternative that allow for better absorption.

Meal Planning

Our Registered Dietitians offer healthy personalized meal plans.

At HealthOne, our Registered Dietitians can create a personalized meal plan designed for your nutritional needs and preferences. We often heard feedback that this type of customized support can be integral for making healthy nutritional changes that last. Our Dietitians care deeply about your unique food requirements and tastes and will create a plan just for you.

We cater our services to all kinds of diet and lifestyle choices including vegetarian and vegan eaters, those interested in low carbohydrate and ketogenic options, or anything else. Additionally, our team is experienced in creating plans tailored to busy people who can benefit from 30-minute meals with simple ingredient lists.

The main goal of meal planning is to provide you with a structured plan to help you start living a healthier life. You’ll gain insights and ideas into how to eat a more balanced, nutrition-focused diet.

The primary intention of meal planning is to offer you a structured way to kick start your healthy lifestyle.  Our plans can give you ideas about what it means to eat a balanced and nutritionally adequate diet. We always incorporate foods you love so you enjoy it!

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment where thin needles are inserted into the skin in specific areas. Both our Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and Naturopathic Doctor can administer this treatment.

It is an effective tool for a wide range of health conditions and can reduce pain, improve overall wellness, and help you manage stress.

It can be used to treat anxiety, depression, fertility issues, skin problems, digestive concerns, sleep disturbances, fatigue, tense muscles, and body pain.

One Needle Treatment

This is a form of treatment performed by our Chinese Medicine Practitioner. They will rapidly use the acupuncture needle to treat conditions such as cervical spondylosis (which may include headaches, dizziness, vomiting, tinnitus), back and knee pain, acute ankle sprains, or blocked sinus passages.

Painless Micro-acupuncture

We also offer painless micro-acupuncture for those who have a lower pain tolerance or are scared of acupuncture needles. It is done through moxibustion treatment, which uses traditional Chinese tools to create a similar treatment approach to acupuncture without the needles.

Facial Rejuvenation with Acupuncture

Our Naturopathic Doctor can also perform acupuncture on the face to treat a variety of concerns including skin aging, youthfulness, and skin texture. It will allow your skin to restore a brilliant, healthy glow. This treatment works by stimulating your lymphatic and circulatory systems, thereby encouraging the body to provide more nutrients to your skin cells.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

As people – particularly women – get older, their hormone levels can decrease. Hormone replacement therapy is a suitable option for replacing lost hormones in the body. It is often referred to as Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).

This treatment is often used to support women going through menopause. It helps by increasing the levels of hormones that have naturally dropped. These changes can cause unpleasant symptoms for many, so BHRT can play a significant role in maintaining a woman’s overall well-being and health during this time. It is available through a prescription and prescribed based on the patient’s particular needs.

Our Naturopathic Doctor at HealthOne is experienced in providing Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy.

inbody body composition analysis

Body Composition Analysis

A body composition analysis is a tool that can help you learn more about your current health.

Performed by our Registered Dietitians, they will use a body scanning device to determine your body weight, body composition (including water, protein, bone density, and fat mass), hydration and blood pressure levels.

This is a great way to understand more about your health and use it as a benchmark for your future health and fitness goals. Many people favour this scan because it provides much more detail than the typical BMI (body mass index) rating. You will be given a printed copy of your score for you to take home and review.

Functional Lab Testing

At HealthOne, our Naturopathic Doctor can conduct a variety of functional lab tests to understand more about your body and the symptoms you are experiencing.

These are tests your Family Doctor may not be able to provide. The results can provide valuable insights into your current health and help the Naturopathic Doctor create your customized treatment plan.

A common test available is a Food Sensitivity Test (FST). It looks at your blood’s inflammatory reaction to specific foods, which you can then eliminate from your diet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my naturopathic visits be covered by OHIP or health insurance?

Naturopathic visits are not covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). However, some insurance benefit plans include naturopathic care. Please check with your insurance provider to see if your coverage could cover all or some of the cost of your visit.

A naturopathic doctor will spend time learning about your unique health history as well as various lifestyle factors to understand the symptoms you’re experiencing. They will work to identify the root cause of the issue(s) you are facing, then create a customized treatment plan to help you recover. This may include lifestyle changes, nutritional counselling, blood or hormone testing, acupuncture, cupping, and/or natural supplements and products.
