Pre and Post Surgery Rehabilitation and Care

In some cases, a chiropractor can provide non-invasive treatment of the musculoskeletal issue you are experiencing, which may completely eliminate the need for surgery. This is particularly true for patients experiencing back pain, which can be extremely uncomfortable and interfere with your day-to-day life. Chiropractors can evaluate the cause of your pain and use non-invasive methods, such as spinal manipulations, to reduce or eliminate pain. It is worth considering a visit to a chiropractor before turning to surgery as a solution to your condition. They can make an accurate diagnosis and discuss with you the best next steps for your unique needs.

In the event that you do require surgery, rehab professionals can help you both prepare beforehand and recover afterwards. It is recommended that patients consult their surgeon before visiting a chiropractor following a surgical procedure. Our chiropractor will consider your condition using a full-body approach and evaluate the best method of treatment for your rehabilitation. At HealthOne, we’re pleased to have multiple rehab professionals on our team who can assist you. We may refer you to another professional, such as a physiotherapist, to teach you more specific strategies for optimizing movement and healing fully after your surgery.

Headaches and Migraines

Frequent headaches can greatly interfere with your quality of life and ability to perform daily tasks. They can interfere with sleep, reduce your ability to focus, and affect your cognitive functioning. Different types of headaches can be linked to different root causes, and visiting a chiropractor is an excellent way to understand the unique situation you’re dealing with. Headaches should be taken seriously, and visiting a professional is always a wise choice to prevent your symptoms from getting worse. You should consider visiting a chiropractor especially if your headaches are frequent, often require you to take pain medication for relief, or if they are getting worse.

Some of the most common types of headaches seen in patients include tension, migraine, and cervicogenic. Our chiropractors will make an accurate diagnosis after learning more about your symptoms including how severe they are and how long you’ve been experiencing them. Following your assessment, they will develop a custom treatment plan to address the root cause of your headaches or migraines. Oftentimes, headaches can be resolved with a combination of spinal manipulation, exercises, soft tissue therapy and/or hands-on massage techniques. Based on your needs, you may also receive a referral to other specialists who can contribute to your ongoing care approach and recovery.

Balance Related Disorders (Vestibular Rehabilitation)

It can be difficult and disorienting to experience a vestibular related condition. Common examples include dizziness, vertigo, and concussions. Balance-related disorders are rooted in the vestibular system, which is a combination of the inner ear, nerves, and cochlea. Together, this sensory system combines with our vision, muscles and joints so we can navigate life with proper coordination. An imbalance can result in difficulties moving around that a chiropractor can help treat.

At HealthOne, we understand that a vestibular condition can have a significant impact on your daily living. Our chiropractor is experienced in treating dizziness and other associated symptoms with the utmost care and attention. He will evaluate your symptoms, diagnose your issue and develop a targeted treatment plan to improve your balance. Pre and Post Natal Care

A woman’s body goes through many changes during pregnancy. As her baby grows, her limbs and muscles must adapt, and in many cases, this can lead to pain and discomfort. It’s important for a woman to be in optimal physical health before giving birth, so addressing any symptoms she is experiencing can provide better outcomes for her and her baby. A chiropractor can play a key role in prenatal care for women by effectively treating common sources of pain they may be experiencing. Any and all treatments done will be performed with the utmost care by our licensed and experienced chiropractor.

In terms of post-natal care, a chiropractor can continue to provide support by treating the body pain that is commonly experienced after giving birth. It is always recommended that you consult with your primary care physician prior to visiting a chiropractor during or after pregnancy. At HealthOne, our chiropractor is trained in working with pregnant women and will ensure your safety is always top priority.

Rehabilitation (MVA, Workplace Injuries, Slip and Fall)

SERVICE OFFERED AT OUR NORTH YORK LOCATION.

It’s important to visit a chiropractor following an accident or injury. At HealthOne Rehab, we prioritize the physical needs of our patients following a motor vehicle accident, workplace injury, or slip and fall injury. We understand the need to act quickly and effectively so your recovery is safe and successful.

A motor vehicle accident (MVA) is when a collision happens between a car and another vehicle or person. Treatment of MVA’s, which includes chiropractic care, is usually paid for by the auto insurer. Workplace injuries are another common type of accident, which are covered by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Slip and fall injuries can occur anytime, anywhere whether in your own home or outside due to unsafe conditions. In any of these cases, it’s important to take a reactive approach so you reduce the risk of your injury becoming more severe.

Chiropractors specialize in treating musculoskeletal issues in the body and will be able to assess your symptoms following an accident such as body pain, blurry vision, or headaches. At HealthOne, we will evaluate the severity of your case, develop an individualized treatment plan and help you understand your coverage options.

Services

In-Clinic Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care can effectively treat conditions affecting your muscles, soft tissues, joints, and bones. Our chiropractor in Toronto has a thorough understanding of the mechanics of the human body and will use this knowledge to treat your unique case. He provides a hands-on, non-invasive approach to patient care that will help you achieve your physical health goals.

Our in-clinic chiropractic care services are designed with your safety in mind. We take into consideration your current lifestyle, the symptoms you are experiencing, and the main area(s) of concern that brought you into our clinic. This thorough evaluation is an essential part of your recovery so we can formulate an accurate diagnosis before creating your treatment plan. Our chiropractor may conduct a series of tests or assessments to evaluate your mobility and physical limitations. Based on their findings, they will explain to you the recommended course of action to resolve these issues and help you feel better. Your treatment plan may include adjustments, hands-on therapy techniques, additional treatments such as acupuncture or TENS, manual therapies, and more. We will provide you with an individualized approach, taking into account all factors of your life, to ultimately help you achieve better mobility and less pain.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a form of therapy that can be performed by a chiropractor as part of your treatment approach.

During manual therapy, our chiropractor will use his hands to manipulate or massage the treatment area which can adjust any issues or misalignments.

Chiropractors often use a form of manual therapy called manipulations in their practice to relieve pain and improve your symptoms. This involves moving the neck or body part in such a way that it releases pressure in the joint. It can be an effective way to provide relief from musculoskeletal issues such as back, neck, and joint pain.
Conditions and Symptoms
01 Neck pain (muscle spasm, disc herniation)
02
Lower back pain (disc herniation, facet joint restriction, spinal stenosis
03
Thoracic spine pain (disc herniation, rib restriction)
04

06
Temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction
07

08

Manual Adjustments & Spinal Adjustments

Manual adjustments are one of the most common techniques used by chiropractors. Many patients are familiar with manual force chiropractic adjustments (MFCA) and may seek to work with a chiropractor specifically for this reason. An adjustment is done by using the hands to apply a low amplitude thrust to the treatment area. It can help to loosen stiff joints, reduce pain, and release pressure.

A spinal adjustment is also done using the hands to apply a controlled force to a spinal joint. Patients will typically hear an audible noise of gas escaping from the treated joint. We like to remind our patients that chiropractic care is a regulated healthcare profession done by trained doctors, so any audible noises during treatment should not raise any concern. Following a spinal adjustment, patients can experience benefits including less pain and stiffness, improved range of motion, and a faster recovery.

Joint Mobilization & Manipulation

A chiropractor can treat stiff and painful joints in the body using mobilization techniques. Our chiropractor will apply straight, fluid, gentle movements to the treatment area which can help to improve its mobility. By encouraging the joints to move in a specific motion, this will stretch the underlying tissues and restore your range of motion.

Another common technique used is manipulation, which is performed with the goal of achieving correct alignment. By manually realigning certain joints in your body, our chiropractor can help you reduce the severity of your symptoms and experience less pain. Manipulations are done by physically twisting or turning the treatment area, which is often accompanied by an audible pop or crack. Although this component of manipulations can be concerning for some patients, we assure you that chiropractic care is done with your comfort and safety in mind. Our chiropractor is registered with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario, making him a highly educated and experienced doctor who is skilled in performing these techniques.

Muscle (Active) Release Therapy

Injuries and repetitive stress on the body can lead to the development of scar tissue. It can accumulate in the muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves which often creates uncomfortable symptoms including stiffness, pain, and lack of mobility. Active release therapy is a technique used by our chiropractor to relieve these symptoms and get you on the path to moving better. There are over 500 protocols designed to target and treat many specific areas of the body that can accumulate scar tissue.

During active release therapy, our chiropractor will inflict force using his hands while you move the area of your body from an extended to a flexed position. This aids the breakdown of the adhesion and allows the healing process to begin. Most patients experience a significant increase in mobility after this type of treatment that allows them to return to their normal activities with less pain. Your chiropractor may recommend active release therapy along with other treatment modalities to fully support your recovery.

Active (Exercise-based) Therapy

At HealthOne, we encourage our patients to stay active while recovering from neuromuscular conditions. Movement can encourage your body’s ability to heal and reduce your need for additional chiropractic treatments in the future. For many conditions, such as low back pain, remaining sedentary can delay recovery. This is why we implement and consistently recommend exercise-based therapy to our patients.

Our chiropractors has a deep understanding of how the joints, bones, nerves and muscles work in the body. As such, have can make recommendations on how to stay active and support your body as you recover. They may also refer you to other specialists on our team, such as our physiotherapist or kinesiologist, to further support your active lifestyle and give you recommendations on the best ways to exercise.

Shockwave Therapy

hockwave therapy is a non-surgical treatment used to accelerate the healing of injured tissues. It is often sought after by patients with sports injuries because it can result in a quicker recovery and significant pain relief. Shockwave therapy uses radial pressure waves, which have been shown to have many benefits including less pain and inflammation, better quality blood flow, and less frequent muscle spasms. It encourages the growth of new, healthy tissue so the body can repair itself more quickly. We use the Storz Shockwave System at HealthOne Rehab. Treatments can be performed in as little as 4-6 minutes, and patients will typically feel significantly less pain in 1-3 months. Our chiropractor can evaluate your symptoms to determine if you would be a good candidate for shockwave therapy.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is used to heal injured tissues in the body. It achieves this by delivering red and infrared lights to the cells, which stimulates the production of ATP. This is a molecule that delivers energy to the muscles, and as such, laser therapy can be a great way to see quicker recovery and less scar tissue after your injury. We use a class IV laser at our rehab clinic which is non-invasive and very efficient at targeting and delivering light. It’s also strong enough to penetrate deeply and help stubborn tissues heal more quickly. Our chiropractors will determine if they recommends laser therapy as part of your individualized treatment plan.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy is used to quickly and effectively heal tissues in the body that are injured. It can speed up the recovery process and encourage higher quality tissue repair. During ultrasound therapy, high-frequency sound waves are transmitted through the skin of the injured body part. The main benefits of this treatment include more collagen production, which encourages the body’s natural repair process, and a greater production of blood flow. Based on your condition, our chiropractors will advise you if they recommends ultrasound therapy as part of your treatment approach. At HealthOne, we use state-of-the-art technology so your experience is safe and comfortable.

Interferential Current

Interferential current therapy can help you experience less pain and facilitate quicker healing. In many cases, it can replace the need for patients to take medication to treat their uncomfortable symptoms. During interferential current therapy, electrodes will be attached to your skin which transmits small electrical impulses to your tissues and nerves. This stimulates them and triggers the release of endorphins, which are natural pain relievers. This therapy technique does not cause any pain and can greatly contribute to your healing journey. Our chiropractor will decide after your evaluation whether or not interferential current therapy is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Chiropractors doctors?

A Chiropractor is a regulated health processional registered with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario. They are authorized to use the title “doctor” in their practice, and the title “chiropractor” can only be used by individuals who have completed the registration requirements outlined by the CCO. They must complete seven years of post-secondary education which includes attending an accredited chiropractic college, clinical work experience, and examinations surrounding legislation and their clinical skills. Our chiropractor at HealthOne has completed all the necessary requirements to use the titles “doctor” and “chiropractor” in his practice

Are Chiropractors safe?

It is safe to visit a chiropractor who is highly experienced, knowledgeable about the mechanics of the human body, and registered with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario. This demonstrates their extensive skills and expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating musculoskeletal conditions through various treatment modalities. Patients may have concerns about the safety of chiropractic care due to the audible sounds heard during physical manipulations. Rest assured, the risks of chiropractic treatment are very rare when performed by a doctor who is licensed and trained. Our chiropractor will take extra precautions and care to ensure that your treatment is done safely

What is the difference between a physiotherapist and a chiropractor?

Physiotherapists and chiropractors are both licensed professionals who can help you manage pain, recover from injury, and improve your mobility. The main difference between the two professionals is the approach they take to treating your condition. Physiotherapists focus more on stretches, rehabilitative exercises, and mobilization techniques to support your recovery. In comparison, chiropractors focus more on manipulations and adjustments to treat misalignments in the body. Both practitioners will develop a unique treatment plan for your needs, and if needed, can refer you to other members of our rehab team to further support your recovery.
