Naturopathic Doctor

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct primary health care system that incorporates prevention, scientific knowledge, and natural forms of healing.
This form of medicine takes a comprehensive look at all aspects of your being, including mental, physical, emotional, and environmental aspects.

Naturopathic Doctors address the root cause of illness while supporting your body’s innate ability to heal. They spend time listening to your story while educating you to take charge of your own health through disease prevention and health promotion.

Registered Dietitian

HealthOne Wellness provides Registered Dietitians to help guide your eating habit towards achieving your goals in a sustainable manner.
Food is an enormous part of our day-to-day living, and many people have questions about what actually constitutes a healthy diet.

Our Registered Dietitians offer counseling sessions, follow-up appointments, as well a 6 week or 12 week Nutrition and Health Counselling Program for Individuals and Couples to support your Weight Management, Chronic Disease Management, Gut Health, Energy, and Optimal Health goals.

Holistic Nutritionist (Coming Soon)

A holistic nutritionist is a certified nutritionist who uses a comprehensive approach to healthcare.

They consider not only your relationship with food but how your nutritional choices relate to all other areas of your health and well-being. They will factor in components such as your health and family history, eating habits, lifestyle, and environmental factors, as well as your physical, mental, and emotional health. Then, they will use this information to identify the root cause of any symptoms you may be experiencing and create personalized nutritional recommendations for you.

A holistic nutritionist can play an integral role in your healthcare journey by providing individualized nutritional and lifestyle advice. They understand that many different factors influence the food choices we make and aim to help you understand and balance these factors. They can help you live a healthier, happier, and more balanced life.

Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient practice that has been used in China for thousands of years.

It is a natural wellness approach that focuses on balance, harmony, and energy. TCM treatments often include supporting the flow of ‘energy’ or ‘qi’ throughout the body, as well as restoring the optimal balance between the yin and yang.

Our Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner offers Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, bian energy stone, cupping, and TuiNa. Our doctors have an expansive selection of acupuncture techniques including the use of ordinary needles, leather needles, triangular needles, blood collection needles and plum blossom needles to name a few. Auxiliary treatment equipment includes acupuncture instruments, magnetic therapy instrument, and infrared instruments.bia

Sleep Consultant

If you experience sleep issues, you may benefit from meeting with a Sleep Consultant.

This is a trained healthcare provider who specializes in helping people get better quality sleep. They will understand and address the root cause of your sleep issues and come up with a targeted plan using research-based methods and holistic thinking to help you improve. At HealthOne, our Sleep Consultant considers five key pillars: headspace, schedule, environment, nutrition, and movement, and how they can be improved to support a healthier sleep schedule in your life.

Digestive Issues

Are you experiencing gas, bloating, heartburn, indigestion, or constipation? Digestive issues can be overwhelming and frustrating.

The gut plays an important role in our overall health and wellness. In addition to food intolerances and sensitivities causing a digestive upset, there is increasing research that links our gut health to our immune systems, mental health, skin health, stress management, energy levels, mood, and disease risk.

At HealthOne Wellness our Gut Health Program will optimize digestive health through maximizing digestive enzyme secretion, ensuring optimal nutrient absorption, promoting a healthy balance of gut flora, eliminating dysbiosis, and working towards healthy bowel motility and stool formation.

Hormone Health & Balance

Hormones are our body’s chemical messengers produced by our endocrine glands. They have an incredibly important role throughout the body, traveling through the bloodstream to our tissues and organs to deliver messages that impact the body’s function.
Hormones affect growth and development, mood, our immune system, sexual function, and reproduction, as well as metabolism. Because they impact so many bodily functions, even tiny imbalances (too much or too little) can cause significant and wide-ranging side effects.

During many stages of our life, hormonal support can help us achieve optimal health. Optimal hormone balance in the body can help restore memory, increase energy, support metabolism, promote healthy sleep, reduce wrinkles, reverse thinning hair, boost our immune system, increase bone density, and improve cardiovascular health.

Stress Management & Mood

Stress, anxiety, and mood conditions are often thought to be independent of our health and wellness choices. However, current research is beginning to highlight the impact of lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise in influencing our mood.

Factors such as optimal sleep, diet and nutrition, nutritional imbalances, and physical activity can all significantly affect our feelings of health and wellbeing. The gut is often referred to as our “second brain” and our microbiome is incredibly important to feeling happy, relaxed, and safe.

If you are experiencing stress, anxiety, or mood-related conditions, consulting with our Wellness team can be a great addition to visiting our Mental Health Clinic. With support from our mental health professionals, in combination with optimizing your diet and lifestyle habits, you will be back on the path towards inspired living.

Chronic Disease (Management and Prevention)

Lifestyle factors are becoming increasingly recognized as the leading cause of chronic disease faced by most Canadians.
Whether you are living with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, Crohn’s disease, Celiac disease, mood disorders, or more, we have strategies available for you.

Your physician may refer you to our Registered Dietitians to manage your blood sugar or reduce your cholesterol. Other interventions include optimizing your sleep quality, exercise and activity recommendations, diet modifications, and nutritional supplementation advice from our Naturopathic Doctor.

We will explain the basic pathophysiology of the disease and how it relates to diet and lifestyle. Then, we will learn about your history, lifestyle, preferences, eating habits, and challenges/concerns. You will walk away with a personalized plan as part of your treatment, helping you better manage your disease.

Weight Loss

With the endless and conflicting dietary advice available to Canadians today, many of us want to discuss the most effective dietary approaches to weight loss with a trusted professional.

Food and eating patterns can be a complicated and emotional topic. From coping with emotions to managing grocery expenses, and engrained food behaviors from our family home, there are many reasons why we eat the way we do. Working with a professional can offer insight and understanding into your food choices, as well as the most current, evidence-based strategies to lose weight and keep it off for good.

Managing your weight requires time, commitment, and empathetic support. Our coaching programs allow for regular follow-up appointments to offer ongoing accountability and support. Our Wellness team will guide you on this journey to making healthy changes and seeing results that last.

Allergies and Food Sensitivities

Allergies are your immune system’s response to what it identifies as a harmful substance. They can be triggered by airborne allergens, foods, insect stings, medications, latex, drug allergies, and other substances.
People can experience allergy symptoms at varying severity levels, from mild symptoms such as sneezing and watery eyes to more life-threatening symptoms like anaphylaxis. A food sensitivity is different from an allergy because the response from the immune system is not immediate. It may take several days before you experience symptoms of a food sensitivity. They can cause uncomfortable symptoms like abdominal pain, fatigue, migraines, and IBS which can be greatly improved through lifestyle changes. An effective way to reduce and improve your allergies or sensitivities is by working with a Naturopathic Doctor or Dietitian.

A Naturopathic Doctor’s effective approach to allergy symptom management involves creating a treatment plan. This includes using various tests to identify and where possible, eliminate your allergy triggers completely. It may also include decreasing the severity or reactivity of your triggers with tools such as herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, or acupuncture.

You can work with a Registered Dietitian to understand more about the best food choices for your unique needs. They can provide support by identifying the foods that are not safe for your consumption and creating an appropriate eating plan to support your optimal nutrition.
Specialized Services

Vitamin Injections

Performed by our experienced Naturopathic Doctor, our intramuscular vitamin injections are a quick and easy way to get your essential vitamin boost.
They will leave you feeling energized, balanced, and ready to take charge of your day. Intramuscular vitamin injections take less than 5 minutes and provide an excellent option when avoiding daily supplementation with quick and effective results.

Vitamin D Injections

Vitamin D deficiency is a common condition in Canadians. Vitamin D deficiency symptoms include low immune function, anxiety or depression, tiredness and fatigue, chronic pain, bone density loss, impaired wound healing, hair loss, muscle pain, and high blood pressure.
During the winter months, we are unable to absorb Vitamin D through our skin and require support through supplementation. Vitamin D injections can provide a high dose of vitamin D that is absorbed more easily than through traditional oral supplementation.

At HealthOne Wellness, our Vitamin D injections can support and enhance your mood, stimulate the immune system, and strengthen bones. It’s especially a must in the winter to help with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Vitamin B12 Injections

Vitamin B12 is another common vitamin deficiency in North America. Vitamin B12 boosts energy, supports stress management, supports weight loss, enhances athletic performance, enhances cardiovascular function, and increases red blood cell production.
Vitamin B12 is only found naturally in animal foods, which is why vegetarians and vegans are often told to supplement. GI concerns such as IBS and IBD, as well as aging, can also affect the absorption of B12 through oral supplements. B12 injections are a great way to effectively absorb this essential vitamin.

Meal Planning

Our Registered Dietitians offer healthy personalized meal plans.
At HealthOne Wellness, we often hear feedback that personalized recipes and meal planning support are important for implementing new nutrition changes. Since there is no one way to eat a healthy diet, our Dietitians will ask questions to understand your food preferences and nutrition needs when creating your meal plan.

Whether you have a flexible diet, are a vegetarian or vegan, are interested in a low carbohydrate or ketogenic meals, or somewhere in between, we can customize a plan for you. If you are typically on-the-go, our dietitians can also opt for meal ideas that are all under 30 minutes to prepare, with minimal ingredients.

The primary intention of meal planning is to offer you a structured way to kick start your healthy lifestyle. Our plans can give you ideas about what it means to eat a balanced and nutritionally adequate diet. We will always build in enough of your favorite foods to make sure you are building a plan you can sustain for life!

Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body.

Acupuncture can be used for pain relief, overall wellness, and stress management. At HealthOne Wellness, acupuncture is offered by our Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner and Naturopathic Doctor.

Our practitioners frequently use acupuncture to manage many types of conditions including anxiety, depression, fertility, facial rejuvenation, digestive issues, sleep disorders, fatigue, muscular tension, and pain.

One Needle Treatment

With only one needle, our Chinese Medicine Practitioner conducts rapid treatment of cervical spondylosis (including headache, dizziness, vomiting, tinnitus, eye flower), lumbar pain, knee pain, acute ankle sprain, and blocked sinuses.

Painless Micro-acupuncture

Painless micro-acupuncture is a treatment method for patients who are sensitive to pain and are afraid of acupuncture. It is based on the principle of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, using special therapeutic instruments, to achieve the therapeutic purpose and effect of acupuncture and moxibustion. The characteristics are no needles, no medicine, and no pain.

Facial Rejuvenation with Acupuncture

Performed by our Naturopathic Doctor, this cosmetic treatment is an extension of traditional acupuncture. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture supports the skin to look younger, smoother, and all-around healthier. The needles stimulate your lymphatic and circulatory system, which delivers nutrients to your skin cells, nourishing the skin from the inside out.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy is a natural way of adding new hormones into the body, also known as Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).
It is typically used as people age and hormone levels drop, particularly for women who are in perimenopause or menopause. It’s used to increase the levels of the hormones that have dropped and improve moderate to severe menopause symptoms. It is only available through a prescription, and the type, combination and dosage is designed specifically for the needs of each patient.

At HealthOne, our Naturopathic Doctor has completed additional training in Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT).

Results paper for body composition analysis

Body Composition Analysis

Using our professional body scanning device, our Registered Dietitians will evaluate your weight, body composition (body water, protein, bone density, and fat mass), hydration, and blood pressure.
This report can be used to take measures to improve health and achieve your fitness goals. It is commonly used to track progress towards your goals over time.

Many of our clients are interested in understanding their body composition, beyond the typical BMI (body mass index) score. Our Registered Dietitians will provide you a professional print-out of your assessment for you to take home and more importantly review results and help you understand the actions to come next.

Functional Lab Testing

Our Naturopathic Doctor uses specialized laboratory testing to diagnose and treat your symptoms.
These tests usually are not offered by your family doctor, and can help provide a better understanding of your unique circumstances and health needs. Functional lab tests are an excellent tool because they can give you a more specific and thorough understanding of your health to help treat the root cause of the issues you’re experiencing.

Food Sensitivity Testing (FST) is commonly performed at HealthOne Wellness by our Naturopathic Doctor. FST is a blood test that analyses the reaction of your blood to specific foods. The results will allow you to eliminate specific foods that may be creating inflammation in your body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my naturopathic visits be covered by OHIP or health insurance?

Currently, naturopathic visits are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). There are many health insurance plans, however, that will cover the full or partial cost of your appointment. We encourage you to look into the details from your insurance providers for more details.

What will a naturopath do for me?

A naturopathic doctor will spend time learning about your unique health history as well as various lifestyle factors to understand the symptoms you’re experiencing. They will work to identify the root cause of the issue(s) you are facing, then create a customized treatment plan to help you recover. This may include lifestyle changes, nutritional counselling, blood or hormone testing, acupuncture, cupping, and/or natural supplements and products.

What is the difference between food sensitivity and food allergy?

An allergy is a reaction that happens in your immune system that causes an immediate response. Symptoms of a food allergy can be more serious, such as anaphylaxis. A food sensitivity also happens in the immune system, but it can take a few days for the symptoms to appear and they are not life-threatening.
