6 Delicious and Healthy Soup Recipes from Toronto Nutritionists

Healthone Medical And Wellness Centre | December 2, 2019

It’s really amazing how our food preferences change as the weather gets colder.  All of a sudden a hearty soup or chili seems like the perfect meal!

At HealthOne, we love healthy soups in the fall and winter months.  While canned soups are full of processed ingredients and sodium, homemade soups can be an awesome way to increase your intake of veggies and healthy fats.

Here are 6 healthy and cozy soup recipes to try this fall from some of our local favourite dietitians and nutritionists!

Carrot Cumin Soup with Toasted Pecans – Leslie Beck

Carrot soup is super delicious!  We also couldn’t be happier to see real butter used in this recipe.  Gone are the days of margarine – saturated fat in moderation has numerous health benefits.

Vegan Yellow Beet Coconut Curry Soup –Abbey’s Kitchen

This is the perfect plant-based recipe to stay warm and cozy in the winter months.  The combination of beets, carrots, garlic, onions, and ginger makes for an epic anti-oxidant boost, while olive oil and coconut milk provide great sources of healthy fats.

Taco Soup – Dietitians of Canada & Diabetes Canada

Everyone loves chili in the winter!  This healthy taco soup recipe is rich in protein and fiber.  Opt for organic and grass-fed beef if possible!

Healing Pumpkin Soup – Julie Daniluk

Pumpkin may have risen in popularity thanks to Starbucks, but we promise it tastes just as good without the sugary latte. Pumpkin is packed with vitamins and fiber, and tastes delicious!

Roasted Celery and Parsnip Soup – Aviva Allen

We often see blogs about the health benefits of celery – but roasted parsnip is truly an overlooked fall and winter veggie.  Parsnip is a great lower calorie and carbohydrate substitute for potatoes and is also high in fiber!

Turmeric Butternut Squash Blender Soup – Joyous Health

No list of winter soups could ever be complete without a butternut squash recipe.  Joy includes a video demonstration with this recipe to show you just how easy it is to make. We also award double points here for including our all-time favourite anti-inflammatory spice – turmeric!

We hope you love these soup recipes just as much as we do!  Let us know your favourites on Instagram @HealthOneTO
